Which GAF Warranty Should I Choose?

 

GAF offers five different types of warranty, and each of these warranties have varying coverage and specific eligibility requirements. GAF Shingle and Accessory Limited Warranty, however, is the only type of warranty that does not have any eligibility requirements. The rest are as follows:

  • GAF Roofing System Limited Warranty – installation of GAF shingles and at least three qualifying accessory products

  • System Plus Limited Warranty – installation of GAF shingles and at least three qualifying accessory products; must be installed by a GAF Certified Master Elite Roofing Contractor

  • Silver Pledge Limited Warranty – installation of GAF shingles and at least four qualifying accessory products; must be installed by a GAF Certified Master Elite Roofing Contractor

  • Golden Pledge Limited Warranty – installation of GAF shingles and at least five qualifying accessory products; must be installed by a GAF Certified Master Elite Roofing Contractor

What Does a "Lifetime Limited Warranty" Mean?

Much like window companies, roofing companies have very specific definitions of terms. In the context of GAF warranties, "Lifetime" refers to the length of coverage provided by the warranty as long as you remain the original owner or the second owner of the property where the shingles and/or accessories are installed. The Lifetime limited warranty, however, is only applicable to single-family detached homes owned by individuals. For other types of owners or buildings, the period for warranty coverage is 40 years.

What Does "Smart Choice Protection Period" Mean?

This refers to the period following the installation of GAF products during which the coverage provided by your warranty is non-prorated. After this period, the remedy provided in your GAF warranty may no longer the be the same as the one provided during the Smart Choice Protection Period.
