Attic insulation is a fairly important component of your home as it allows your HVAC system to perform better, which in turn allows you to save a large amount on your monthly energy bills. According to insulation and gutter replacement contractors, however, despite this glaring benefit, some homeowners are still wary of insulation due to various myths and misconceptions.
Here are some of them:
- Insulation Causes Fire and Damages Your Home - While this notion does have a grain of truth to it, insulation can only damage your home if it isn’t installed properly. It also doesn’t always catch fire as well, as insulation experts will always choose the optimal kind that suits your home best.
- Spray Foam Isn’t an Ideal Choice - Again, this myth has a grain of truth to it as back in the 1970s, home insulation contractors used spray foam with urea formaldehyde to insulate homes. Unfortunately, authorities back then weren’t aware of the dangers of urea formaldehyde off-gassing. Nowadays, however, this is pure myth as you can always choose a spray foam insulation that doesn’t use urea formaldehyde instead.
- Insulating Is All You Need to Improve HVAC Performance - While attic insulation can certainly help you improve your HVAC system’s performance, that’s not the only thing you need. If you really want to improve your HVAC system, you need to have the ductwork cleaned, replace the air filter, and in some cases, maybe even replace the HVAC itself. Regardless, the bottom line is that attic insulation isn’t the only thing that can improve the performance of your HVAC system.
- Warm Weather Climates Don’t Require Insulation - Whenever homeowners hear the term “insulation”, they automatically tend to think that all it’s good for is to keep warm air in. As such, they tend to think they don’t need it if they live in areas with warm climates. In reality, however, insulation acts as a barrier against heat as well and prevents it from entering your living space and making your cooling system work harder than it should.
