Perform an Annual Inspection
LP SmartSide has low maintenance requirements, much like vinyl siding. It doesn’t mean it’s a set-and-forget installation, however. It’s subject to daily wear and tear, so it only makes sense to keep an eye on its condition. The good news is you only need to do this once a year. We recommend scheduling your siding inspection in conjunction with your spring cleaning. Watch out for cracks, blisters and impact damage. Small imperfections can be touched up by paint, but for widespread damage, contact your siding contractor and have them perform repairs.
Use Proper Cleaning Products
Cleaning LP SmartSide siding is easy. Prepare a solution of mild detergent or dishwashing liquid and water in a bucket. You can use a plant-friendly detergent of your choice for this purpose, especially when washing near landscaping. Use a soft clean cloth, a sponge or a soft brush to scrub stubborn dirt. A soft brush with a telescoping handle can help you clean those hard-to-reach areas. This mild cleaning solution can also be used on new patio doors if you feel inclined to clean these areas as well. Make sure you wipe the glass dry to prevent water spotting.
For Tough Stains
For mold and mildew stains, prepare a solution of three parts water to one part white vinegar. Use a soft cloth or drip a clean brush into this solution. You may need to apply a little bit of elbow grease, but not too much, as it may damage the finish or the siding itself. Never use undiluted vinegar, harsh abrasives or solvents. Likewise, never use a pressure washer as it can prematurely wear the siding.
